Troubleshooting Guide: How to Make Your Nail Wraps Last 2+ Weeks

A full set of semi cured gel wraps should last 2 to 3 weeks. If yours do not, something in the process needs adjusting.

The foundation

Prep is everything. Nails need to be clean, dry, and free of any oil, lotion, or residue. Push cuticles back. Buff lightly. Wipe with alcohol. The wrap needs bare nail to grip.

Application: stick the wrap at the cuticle line and press outward toward the tip. Cure under a UV lamp for 60 seconds. File the free edge flush.

Common issue: Edge lifting

This is the most common problem and usually has one of three causes:

  • The nail was not clean enough. Even a trace of hand cream will stop the adhesive from bonding at the edges.
  • The wrap was applied too close to the cuticle or skin. Leave a hairline gap.
  • The wrap was left long past the free edge. File it flush after curing. Overhang catches on fabric and lifts the whole wrap.

Common issue: Chipping

Chipping usually means the wrap is hitting something. Common culprits:

  • Using nails as tools
  • Frequent dishwashing without gloves
  • Carrying heavy shopping bags without gloves

A clear top coat adds a protective layer. For people who work with their hands, it can make the difference between 10 days and 3 weeks.

Common issue: Discoloration

Wraps can discolour from prolonged water exposure, strong detergents, or deeply pigmented foods. Gloves prevent most of it. A top coat adds a stain barrier.

Common issue: Bubbles under the wrap

Bubbles are caused by air trapped during application. Press from the centre outward. If a bubble forms, lift the wrap slightly and reapply. Bubbles create weak points where the wrap can snag and lift.

Common issue: Wrap not lasting as long as expected

If you consistently get less than 2 weeks, check:

  1. Are you using a proper UV lamp? Cure time: 60 seconds per hand.
  2. Are you touching the nail surface after cleaning?
  3. Are you washing your hands within an hour of applying? Avoid water for the first hour.

Removal

When 2 to 3 weeks are up, soak each nail in cuticle oil for one minute. The wrap lifts off in one piece. Do not peel it dry. If a wrap is stubborn, add more oil and wait another 30 seconds. Never force it.
